\nHistory was made within the Salesian Congregation in Nigeria as\u00a0Fr. Peter Chiweike Morba<\/strong>\u00a0was formally installed as the\u00a0first indigenous Provincial of the Africa Nigeria \u2013 Niger (ANN) Province<\/strong>, marking a milestone in the over 40-year presence of the Salesians in the country.<\/p>\n

The installation ceremony took place at the\u00a0Mary Help of Christians Chapel of the Provincial House in Iju, Lagos. It was<\/strong>\u00a0presided over by the\u00a0Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna<\/strong>, Bishop of Kontagora Diocese. The liturgical celebration drew clergy, religious, and lay faithful from across Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Delivering the homily,\u00a0Fr. Alphonse Owoudou<\/strong>, Regional Councillor for Central and West Africa, reflected on the spiritual weight of the appointment.\u00a0\u201cWhen God says \u2018I am with you,\u2019 it means He is with us in good times and in bad,\u201d <\/em>he said. He described the beginning of Fr. Morba\u2019s provincial service as a \u201cnew birth,\u201d emphasising that such moments inevitably attract challenges, distractions, and trials. He reminded Salesians that authentic religious life is not about\u00a0\u201csuccess, power, or what creates the wow syndrome\u201d<\/em>\u00a0but about fidelity, humility, and service.<\/p>\n

Drawing inspiration from the Virgin Mary, Fr. Owoudou invited the faithful to emulate her readiness to respond to human needs \u2013 whether in her visit to Elizabeth, at the wedding at Cana, or at the foot of the Cross.\u00a0\u201cWho is your Elizabeth today?\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he asked, urging the congregation to recognise and serve those most in need.<\/p>\n

In his words of gratitude,\u00a0Fr. Morba<\/strong>\u00a0thanked the Rector Major and his council for entrusting him with the leadership of the young province. He encouraged his confreres to embrace transparency, a commitment to the evangelical counsels, and unity that transcends cultural and personal differences.\u00a0\u201cFor us to be successful, we must work together irrespective of our backgrounds,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he stressed.<\/p>\n

Bishop Yohanna, in a brief address, congratulated the new provincial and offered him pastoral counsel on leadership.\u00a0\u201cLeadership is service, accountability, and good example,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0he said.\u00a0\u201cIf you want to be happy, make other people happy.\u201d\"\"<\/em><\/p>\n

The installation marks a turning point for the Salesian mission in Nigeria, signifying both maturity and a hopeful future. For many, Fr.
