Stakeholders from across Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector gathered in Akure, Ondo State, on 28 July 2026 for the 2026 TVET National Stakeholders Forum, where they discussed practical strategies to position TVET as a catalyst for skills development, employment, and national growth.<\/p>\n

Organised by Don Bosco Tech Africa in collaboration with key stakeholders, the forum was held under the theme “Positioning TVET for Skills, Jobs and National Development.” It provided a platform for government agencies, industry representatives, education stakeholders, and development partners to deliberate on strengthening the country’s TVET ecosystem to better respond to labour market demands.<\/p>\n

Participants included representatives of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Ministry of Technical and Vocational Education, Ondo State, and organisations representing Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), underscoring the forum’s commitment to inclusive and collaborative dialogue.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, Very Rev. Fr. James Ekanem, SDB, called on stakeholders to remain focused on practical solutions to improve the quality and relevance of technical and vocational education across the country. He emphasised the need to strengthen curriculum relevance, upgrade training facilities, deepen industry collaboration, and expand opportunities for women and vulnerable groups, particularly persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n

A major focus of the discussions was ensuring that TVET programmes remain responsive to the changing needs of industry and the world of work. Participants stressed the importance of reviewing existing curricula, improving learning infrastructure, and creating stronger links between training institutions and employers to produce graduates with relevant, job-ready skills.<\/p>\n

Speaking during the forum,\u00a0Dr\u00a0Ige Akindele noted that the programme provided an opportunity to assess the relevance of existing curricula and identify areas requiring review to ensure they remain industry-driven and aligned with current realities.<\/p>\n

Participants also expressed optimism that the forum would contribute to better-informed policies capable of strengthening Nigeria’s TVET system. They observed that sustainable national development depends on investing in technical and vocational education and providing the infrastructure needed to support quality skills training.<\/p>\n
