ANN Province Holds Economers and Accountants Capacity Building Workshop in Lagos

The Africa Nigeria Niger (ANN) Province of the Salesians of Don Bosco commenced its 2026 Economers and Accountants Meeting and Capacity Building Workshop at the Provincial House, Iju, Lagos, bringing together economers and accountants from across the Province for a period of learning, reflection, collaboration, and administrative strengthening.

The workshop, which runs from 11 to 15 May 2026, gathers participants from Salesian communities across Nigeria, while participants from Niger joined the sessions virtually. The programme forms part of the Province’s ongoing commitment to strengthening accountability, effective administration, financial management, and sustainable service within its communities and institutions.

The opening day began with prayer and a welcome remark led by Fr. Moses, followed by an overview of the Province presented by the PDO Director and Provincial Economer, Rev. Fr. Raphael Airoboman, SDB. Participants also engaged in sessions focused on community reports and realities within the Province, creating space for dialogue, shared experiences, and collaborative reflection among economers and accountants.

A key aspect of the first day was the reflection on the ANN Human Resource Document, facilitated by members of the PDO Finance Team, Mr Tosin and Mrs MaryJane. The session encouraged participants to examine the Province’s human resource policies closely and explore practical ways of strengthening institutional structures and administrative effectiveness within their various communities. Group discussions and presentations further deepened engagement and peer learning.

The day also featured a practical session on Human Resource Management facilitated by Mrs Theresa Amaechi, equipping participants with insights and tools for improved personnel management and workplace administration.

Throughout the workshop, participants have continued to engage in interactive discussions, breakout sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities designed to encourage collaboration and strengthen professional capacity across the Province. Beyond the technical sessions, the programme also provides moments of spiritual renewal through the celebration of Holy Mass and communal prayer, reinforcing the Salesian understanding of administration as both service and mission.

Other sessions focus on financial accountability, tax filing, budgeting, sustainability planning, stakeholder engagement, and the relationship between the PDO and local communities in advancing the Salesian mission within the ANN Province. Facilitators include members of the PDO team and professionals with expertise in finance, administration, sustainability, and organisational development.

The workshop continues to provide an important platform for economers and accountants to exchange ideas, strengthen professional competence, and deepen collaboration in support of the Province’s mission of serving young people and vulnerable communities across the ANN Province.
