The Salesians of Don Bosco have officially begun a new mission presence at St. Carlo Acutis, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, marking another important milestone in the expansion of the Salesian charism within the Africa Nigeria Niger Province.
With gratitude to God, the Province celebrates this new beginning, which reflects its commitment to bringing Salesian spirituality, youth formation and pastoral care to communities where young people can grow in faith, education and holistic development.
Upon their arrival, the community was warmly received by the Bishop of the Uyo Diocese, represented by the Judicial Vicar, Very Rev. Fr. Dr Anthony Ekong, alongside the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Pius Nkuda, the elders of the community and the faithful of St. Paul’s Parish, Amamong. Their generous welcome reflected the spirit of collaboration between the Diocese of Uyo and the Salesian Congregation as they begin this shared mission.
The new community will focus on youth ministry, evangelisation, education and the holistic development of young people, in keeping with the Salesian mission of accompanying the young, especially those most in need.
As this new chapter begins, the Province remains grateful for the support of the Diocese of Uyo and the faithful of St. Paul’s Parish. We entrust this mission to the Lord through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians, praying that this new Salesian presence will become a place where young people encounter Christ, discover their gifts, and grow into responsible citizens and committed Christians.
