On Wednesday, 22nd October 2025, the Planning and Development Office (PDO) of the Africa Nigeria-Niger (ANN) Province welcomed Fr. Eric Mairura from the Salesian Mission Office of the Generalate in Rome for an insightful and inspiring session.
During the engagement, which took place at the conference room of the Provincial house in Iju, Fr. Mairura provided a clear and comprehensive explanation of the PDO’s vital role within the Salesian Congregation, describing it as a strategic tool that supports the Provincial and his Council in fulfilling their mission.
He emphasised that the PDO’s core responsibility extends beyond resource mobilisation. Instead, its primary function is to support the Provincial’s strategic plan, policy development, and the creation of key governance documents, such as the Organic Provincial Plan.
Fr. Mairura reminded the team that while fundraising is part of the PDO’s work, it should never overshadow the greater purpose: building sustainable systems that serve the young and vulnerable, in alignment with the Salesian charism.
The session left the PDO team deeply inspired and motivated to enhance their operations, ensuring that every effort made contributes meaningfully to empowering the youth and strengthening the mission of the Salesians of Don Bosco in the ANN Province.
As the team continues to grow in purpose and commitment, the message is clear: our work begins and ends with the young.
