Fr. Fabio Attard, SDB, has been elected the Rector Major for the six-year term 2025–2031 by the 29th General Chapter of the Salesian Congregation in Turin, Italy and is now the 11th Successor of Don Bosco.
Fr. Fabio Attard, who is 66 years old with 45 years of Salesian life, is the first Maltese Salesian to occupy this role. He is also the first Rector Major to be elected outside of the General Chapter.
Fr. Attard, a multifaceted and multitalented personality, has served in diverse capacities. This includes his service in the General Council, where he served for 12 years as a Councillor for the Youth Ministry, and outside of it, he also served as the Formation Coordinator for Salesians and Lay People in Europe and later as an Extraordinary Visitor on behalf of the Rector Major.
His election was influenced by his numerous and diverse skills, including visionary leadership and missionary spirit. We wish him all the best in this new role.
