PDO Conducts a 3-day Training for Economers

The Provincial Development Orgarnism, PDO of the African Nigeria Niger (ANN) Province of the Salesians of Don Bosco has launched a three-day training program for its local Economers and Accountants. The training, which is held at the Provincial House in Iju, aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to transition to a new accounting software and effectively manage financial records.

This new accounting system, introduced by Don Bosco Tech (DB Tech Africa), is designed to create a uniform financial management platform across the African Salesian provinces. As part of the first phase of the implementation process, ANN Province is leading the way in adopting this software, ensuring a seamless migration from the existing system.

The training, which began on Thursday, April 3, 2025, will be concluded on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Representatives from all ANN Province communities have gathered in the provincial house in Iju to participate. Many attendees have expressed enthusiasm about the software’s potential to streamline financial processes and improve efficiency and transparency across Salesian PDO communities in Africa.

MaryJane Onyinye speaks about the training

Mary Jane Onyinye, speaking on behalf of the Provincial Economer, Fr. Raphael Airoboman, emphasized that while this is the initial phase, additional training sessions may be conducted in various communities within the province. She commended ANN Province for taking proactive steps to ensure all Economers and Accountants are well-prepared for the transition.

Fr. Etunke John-Mary, an Economer from the Niger-Niamey community, shared his excitement about the new software. As a newly ordained priest, he had not worked with the previous system, making this training an essential learning experience. He highlighted how the software would enhance financial record-keeping, ensuring accuracy and accountability in managing provincial finances.

Fr. John-Mary expressed confidence that the new system will enable Economers across the ANN Province to perform their tasks more effectively. He is confident that this training will put him and others from his community in perspective and that it is the right direction for the entire province.
