The Provincial Council and Rectors of all Salesian communities in the Nigeria–Niger Province have successfully concluded their annual spiritual retreat at the Provincial House in Iju, Lagos, on 15 November 2025.
The retreat was preached by Fr Philip Lazatin, SDB, a missionary currently serving in the Ethiopia (AFE) Province. His wealth of formation expertise and missionary experience offered deep spiritual nourishment to the participants. Coming from demanding apostolic schedules and diverse community responsibilities, the Rectors and Council members described the retreat as a grace-filled pause—a moment to slow down, reflect, and renew their commitment to personal growth and leadership in the Salesian spirit.
Fr. Lazatin guided participants through themes that encouraged interior reflection, pastoral sensitivity, and greater effectiveness in service and community animation. His insights helped the leaders revisit the core of their vocation: to serve with humility, lead with faith, and animate their communities with renewed zeal.
Following the retreat, the Provincial Council continued with an extended series of meetings with all Rectors. This second phase focuses on ongoing formation, evaluation of current provincial realities, and strategic planning for the coming year. Together, they are reviewing pastoral priorities, strengthening administrative systems, and discerning new initiatives to enhance the Salesian mission across the Province.
This combined moment of prayerful renewal and strategic coordination marks a significant milestone for the Nigeria–Niger Province as its leaders prepare to guide their communities and apostolates—especially in service to young people entrusted to Salesian care.
