On Wednesday, 18 December 2025, the Project and Development Office (PDO) team, alongside the Salesians of Don Bosco community in Iju, Lagos, stepped out into the streets and the Ndike (Irepodun) market neighbourhood in Obawole, Iju to share food relief items and cash support with petty traders, as a way of spreading hope and joy during the Christmas season.

The outreach focused on street traders who struggle daily to meet basic needs, especially those who may not be able to afford the necessities required to celebrate Christmas. The team had visited the market and its environs to identify petty traders and artisans who would be most impacted by this gesture. Beneficiaries were reached without discrimination of religion or background, reflecting the Salesian commitment to compassion, dignity, and care for all.
The team distributed support to foodstuff vendors, meat sellers, second-hand clothing traders, and POS operators, many of whom were visibly moved by the gesture. The relief came not just as material support, but as a reminder that they are seen, valued, and remembered.

Several beneficiaries took time to share their appreciation. One of the traders, Mrs Uche, a petty foodstuff seller, expressed her gratitude with emotion. Speaking in pidgin English, she said:
“I no even believe say anybody go remember me this Christmas. I don dey ask myself say, ‘na my own dey different?’ God bless una well well.”
Another beneficiary, Mr Kareem, a meat seller, described the support as timely, noting that the Christmas season often brings added financial pressure for small traders trying to survive day by day.
Many others offered prayers for the Don Bosco community, thanking them for the kindness shown and wishing them God’s blessings in return.

This outreach forms part of the Salesians of Don Bosco’s ongoing mission to stand with the poor and vulnerable, especially during moments when hope can feel distant. Through simple acts of generosity, the PDO and Don Bosco community continue to affirm that Christmas is about love in action.
