Job Service Training Session, Nigeria

The Nigerian Job Service Officers’ training/workshop was held recently for one week in Onitsha, Anambra State, South East Nigeria. It brought together the local JSOs (L-JSO) who reside and operate in and from our TVET centres in Ondo and Onitsha, the National JSO (N-JSO) and the Training Directors. The PDO Antenna Office in collaboration with Voluntary International Service (VIS) anchored the program.

The focus was on the dissection and understanding of the JSO Quality Manual, which is the authorised and basic operational tool for the JSOs in Africa. To this effect, the training/workshops would take care of the following:

  • Detailed presentation of the Quality Manual: brief history and the mens behind the conception of the Manual
  • Brainstorming and drafting of a road map/implementation tool of the QM
  • Development of the JSO Annual and Operational Plan (JSO-AOP)

The training has been designed in two phases to enable stakeholders address fully the challenges of the JSOs, proffer possible solutions, and support where necessary. The first part of the training took place from 18th – 25th October 2018, in Onitsha, Anambra State while the second phase from 3rd to 7th December 2018 in the same venue. At the end of these trainings, a final document will be presented which will serve as the guideline of activities throughout the year. It will be shared by all JSOs in Nigeria and beyond if, the need arises.

A LOOK AT THE FUTURE

The future of the JSO in AFW-Nigerian looks promising. A solid foundation is currently being laid with the experience and expertise of the PDO-VIS team, with the training and support received from Don Bosco Tech Africa (DBTech Africa) and the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI), our major and principal donor.

We strongly believe in Technical Vocational Education Training and share the opinion that training objectives are important as placement objectives. The JSO is therefore a necessary tool for the realisation of such target.
