As the world marks World Water Day 2026, the global call to ensure access to safe and clean water for all remains as urgent as ever. Water is not just a basic need—it is a foundation for health, dignity, education, and sustainable development.
At the Project Development Office (PDO) of the Don Bosco Development Initiative, this reality continues to guide our commitment to improving access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in vulnerable communities across Nigeria.
Providing Safe Water and Sanitation for Communities
Through our WASH initiatives, the PDO has supported the development and upgrade of water and sanitation facilities in communities such as Onitsha in Anambra State and Tse-Mker in Benue State, with additional projects ongoing in other locations.
These interventions are designed to create safer and more dignified environments, particularly for children and young people who rely on these facilities daily in schools and community centres.
Access to clean water and proper sanitation reduces the risk of disease, improves hygiene practices, and enhances overall quality of life for entire communities.
Beyond Infrastructure: Transforming Lives
The impact of WASH goes far beyond physical structures. In many communities, access to safe water means:
- Improved health and reduced exposure to waterborne diseases
- Increased school attendance, especially among children
- Greater dignity and safety, particularly for women and girls
- Stronger, more resilient communities
For many beneficiaries, these improvements represent not just convenience but a significant change in their daily lives.
Partnerships That Make Impact Possible
The success of these initiatives is made possible through the support of committed partners and donors who share in the vision of creating sustainable and life-changing interventions.
Through collaboration, the PDO continues to expand its reach, ensuring that more communities benefit from improved water and sanitation systems.
A Renewed Commitment
As we reflect on the significance of World Water Day, we are reminded that much work still needs to be done.
The PDO remains committed to scaling its WASH interventions, improving access to safe water, and promoting hygiene practices that protect and uplift communities.
Together, we can ensure that clean water is not a privilege for a few but a right enjoyed by all.
Join Us
We invite partners, collaborators, and well-wishers to join us in expanding access to safe water and sanitation for vulnerable communities.
Because when communities have access to clean water, they gain more than health; they gain hope, dignity, and a future.
